A dual-memory permanent magnet brushless machine for automotive integrated starter-generator application

    Get PDF
This paper presents a dual-memory permanent magnet brushless machine for automotive integrated starter-generator (ISG) application. The key is that the proposed machine adopts two kinds of PM materials, namely NdFeB and AlNiCo for hybrid excitations. Due to the non-linear characteristic of demagnetization curve, AlNiCo can be regulated to operate at different magnetization levels via a magnetizing winding. With this distinct merit, AlNiCo can provide the assistance for online tuning the air-gap flux density. Firstly, the configuration of proposed machine is presented. Secondly, the finite element method (FEM) is applied for the field calculation and performance verification. Finally, both simulation and experimental results confirm that the proposed machine is very suitable for the ISG application. © 2012 IEEE.published_or_final_versio

Cug2 is essential for normal mitotic control and CNS development in zebrafish.

Background: We recently identified a novel oncogene, Cancer-upregulated gene 2 (CUG2), which is essential for kinetochore formation and promotes tumorigenesis in mammalian cells. However, the in vivo function of CUG2 has not been studied in animal models. Results: To study the function of CUG2 in vivo, we isolated a zebrafish homologue that is expressed specifically in the proliferating cells of the central nervous system (CNS). Morpholino-mediated knockdown of cug2 resulted in apoptosis throughout the CNS and the development of neurodegenerative phenotypes. In addition, cug2-deficient embryos contained mitotically arrested cells displaying abnormal spindle formation and chromosome misalignment in the neural plate. Conclusions: Therefore, our findings suggest that Cug2 is required for normal mitosis during early neurogenesis and has functions in neuronal cell maintenance, thus demonstrating that the cug2 deficient embryos may provide a model system for human neurodegenerative disorders

Security Analysis and Modification of ID-Based Encryption with Equality Test from ACISP 2017

At ACISP 2017, Wu et al. presented an identity-based encryption with equality test (IBEET) that considers to prevent insider attacks. To analyze its security, they proposed a new security notion for IBEET, which is slightly weaker than the indistinguishability under adaptive identity and chosen ciphertext attacks (IND-ID-CCA2) for traditional identity-based encryption. Then, they claimed that their proposed scheme achieves this new security notion under the Bilinear Diffie-Hellman (BDH) assumption in the random oracle model. In this paper, we demonstrate that their scheme does not achieve the claimed security requirement by presenting an attack. Our attack algorithm is very simple: It requires only a pair of message and ciphertext, and takes one exponentiation and two bilinear map evaluations. Subsequently, we present a modification of their IBEET construction and show that it satisfies their security notion under the BDH assumption and the existence of strong pseudorandom permutation and existentially unforgeable message authentication code in the random oracle model. We remark that our modification has better efficiency than the original construction

An efficient offshore wind-wave hybrid generation system using direct-drive multitoothed rotating and linear machines

This paper presents an offshore wind-wave hybrid generation (WWHG) system, which can efficiently harness the offshore wind and wave energy. The key is to use the multitoothed doubly-salient permanent-magnet (MDSPM) machines for serving the rotating generator and the linear generator. Different from the traditional wind or wave generation system, this WWHG system integrates the wind generation part and wave generation part together to directly harness the wind and wave energy without gear box. The system configuration and machine design are analyzed and discussed in detail. Also, the finite-element method is performed to verify the validity of the proposed two machine design. The results tell that the system has the high reliability and can be upgraded to the suitable size for offshore hybrid-source energy conversion in practical application. © 2014 IEEE.published_or_final_versio

Boccia court analysis for promoting elderly physical activity

    Get PDF
Physical inactivity is one of the leading risk factors for global mortality. Older adults, in particular, are more probable to suffer the consequences of physical inactivity, since it is one of the most sedentary age groups. On the other hand, engaging physical activity can have various benefits for the prevention of several diseases and functional loss prevention, therefore, it is critical to encourage its regular practice amongst the elderly. Boccia is a simple precision ball sport that is easily adaptable for individuals with physical limitations, which makes it a perfectly good game for this circumstance. The present paper proposes a ball-detection based system for monitoring the Boccia court, compute the current game score and display it on a user interface. The future goal of such system will be to motivate the elders to participate more frequently in the Boccia game and make the overall game experience more enjoyable. The proposed system was tested with twenty video recordings of different simulated game situations. Overall, the obtained results were encouraging, having only one incorrect game score being computed by the developed algorithm. This article is a result of the project Deus ex Machina: NORTE01-0145-FEDER-000026, supported by Norte Portugal Regional Operational Programme (NORTE 2020), under the PORTUGAL 2020 Partnership Agreement, through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
